Have you used our online portal to complete a self-assessment? We want to hear from you!

Last year, we ran a campaign on the Council’s Facebook and Instagram accounts to promote our online self-assessment portal.

This spring, we’re planning to re-run the campaign and would like to involve people who have used the online portal to complete a self-assessment to share their experience with others.

To find out more information and help us help others, please contact getinvolved@solihull.gov.uk.

Carers’ Forum

Great news! We have reached our initial target of 50 people registering interest in the Carers' Forum. If you would like to help us improve services for family carers in Solihull, there is room in the Forum for you. You will need current experience of caring for a family member or friend.

The Carers' Forum has already been involved in the tender for our new carers' support service, helped improve our carers' webpages and suggested a new page with information about caring for someone who lives in a different borough.

To register your interest in the Carers' Forum, please complete the Help us improve services for carers form.

  • After successful events in 2023 and 2025, we are inviting people to express their interest in being part of a co-production group to shape our upcoming 'helping you plan for later life' events.  This group offers a chance to share your experiences and ideas for the upcoming events.

We’ll review past successes, discuss improvements, and shape the 2026 events together.

    What are the events about?

In 2025, drop-in sessions were hosted at The Bridge in Shirley and The Onward Club in Chelmsley Wood. Participants had the opportunity to consult with local experts, including representatives from the Council, NHS, Age UK Solihull, and Carers Trust Solihull.

These events were designed to help people plan ahead for later life and make wise choices early on.

People were able to engage with Council teams, experts, and local organisations about:

    • finances and planning in case you (or family members) need help
    • housing choices - adaptations, right-sizing and how housing can keep you well
    • support for carers
    • technology and care choices
    • looking after your health and wellbeing

    Working together

This group will be key in creating meaningful and inclusive events that truly reflect the experiences, needs, and priorities of Solihull's community. All Solihull residents are invited to participate.

The project is scheduled from May 2026 to November 2026. The first meeting is set for Tuesday, 19 May 2026, from 10am to 12noon via Microsoft Teams. Meetings will occur every four to six weeks.

    What is co-production?

Co-production is when people come together as equals to make decisions or create services that work for them all. It is about creating an equal partnership between people with care and support needs, carers and people who work in care and support. Working together requires people to actively listen, share ideas and collaborate.

Co-production involves sharing power and taking risks, confronting issues together and working as a group to find solutions that work for all. Recognising that everyone has different skills and expertise, but decisions should be made together, so everyone has a say on what happens. It can happen at an individual, service and strategic level. For example, people may work together to co-produce a person’s care and support plan or a group of people could work together on a strategy.

  • We are inviting people to express their interest in being part of a co-production group to help shape our upcoming Adult Social Care Local Survey.

What is the Adult Social Care Local Survey?

To help us understand the views and experience of people we support and carers, we have a local adult social care survey which is issued following the completion of an assessment process. Included in this, we ask people to rate the information they received, how they found the assessment process, how they felt about their worker, how involved they felt in the process, and how they felt about the services they received. We use the feedback to celebrate what’s working well and identify opportunities to learn and improve.

    Working together

This group will play a vital role in designing a meaningful and inclusive survey that reflects the lived experiences, needs, and priorities of adults drawing on social care in Solihull. We welcome participants who draw on care and support, carers, and people who work in care and support.

This project runs from October 2025 to April 2026.  The next meeting will take place on Wednesday 10 December, 10am to 12noon at the Council House. Meetings take place every six to eight weeks.

  • With your help we want to build a forum of carers to ensure that together, we continue to improve the lives of unpaid carers in Solihull.

As we reach the halfway point of Solihull Council’s Carers’ Strategy (2022-2027), it’s time to take stock and check if we are still focussing on the right priorities.

We are looking for at least 50 people with current experience of caring for a family member or friend in Solihull to join the forum.  We welcome all carers including young carers, working age carers, parent carers and older people caring for their husband, wife, partner or relative.

The forum will provide a space for you as carers to come together, discuss what matters to you and share feedback on the care and support available to carers in Solihull. Through the forum you will influence and design initiatives that make a difference.

Please complete this survey to express your interest in joining the forum and to share your views about priorities for discussion at the forum.
