Update August 2025: This consultation has now ended. Thank you to everybody who responded.

We will now review the comments that have been made and will report the feedback to the Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Planning, together with any revisions to the Settlement Hierarchy that may be justified as a result of the comments made.

Following the publication of the revised National Planning Policy Framework in December 2024 and the associated update to Planning Practice Guidance in February 2025, the Council believes it is appropriate to look at the hierarchy of the borough's rural settlements. In particular which, if any of them, should be considered as towns rather than villages in the context of the new national planning policy.

The Council is publishing a Draft Solihull Settlement Hierarchy, which explores this issue in detail and suggests which of the rural settlements should be considered as towns.

The Council is keen to receive feedback on the approach adopted and its conclusions.

A short survey was open until Monday 25 August and any feedback received used to determine whether and to what extent the approach and conclusions should be adopted and used when determining relevant planning applications.
