We have worked with schools and parents to revise the Solihull Graduated Approach for schools
Young people wanted more support when moving from primary to secondary school
School leaders have worked with Solihull Parent Carer Voice and Our Voices Heard to update the transitions guidance for schools to use.
Updated transition guidance has been developed and published for schools on the education extranet.
Parents wanted more information on health waiting times and where else to get help
We have created a website where anyone can check the latest waiting times for children’s services and see what support is available whilst they are waiting (SEND support available to residents in Solihull)
Further work to promote the support whilst waiting site will be completed. Young people wanted more people to listen to them
We worked with young people to create a video on the importance of hearing children’s and young peoples voices (children and young people) and are sharing this with everyone who works with them.
We have held an awards evening and a number of "Let's talk SEND" events for children and young people with SEND in Solihull. The events cover areas raised by children and young people,
We have started to work with pupils from Alderbrook School to develop a suite of podcasts called "The voices of neurodiversity".
We will continue to hold further "Let's talk SEND" events and consult with children and young people to ensure the events cover areas that are important to them.

We have recently launched the

We have produce a video for children and young people that explains what the additional needs strategy is. This is published on the Information for children and young people webpage
We will continue to keep children and young people updated on the work we are doing via the local offer website and the "Let's talk SEND" events. Parents wanted more information on the EHCP process. We worked with Solihull Parent Carer Voice and SENDIAS to run online meetings to talk about this. We are working to improve the information on the local offer website in relation to the EHCP process to ensure that it clearly explains the process for parents and carers. Parents wanted to know more about what was happening around SEND in Solihull We now produce a termly SEND newsletter SEND Newsletter | solihull.gov.uk
We now have four Family Hubs that are open across Solihull. The SPCV hold regular coffee mornings at the Family Hubs.
Information on activities for children and young people with SEND is available on the Family Information Service directory.Parents said they were having difficulty contacting staff in the EHCP Service We have published contact details through Solihull Parent Carer Voice and SENDIAS. Children and young people said we weren’t always hearing how life was for them We have set up a short survey for children and young people to complete when they meet with services. We will continue to list to the views of children and young people and use the information to define the content of future "Let's talk SEND", and other, events. Children and young people said they didn’t really understand their EHCP We are monitoring how often children and young people are involved in their annual reviews.
More children and young people are attending their annual review meetings.Further work is ongoing through the Our Voices Heard engagement with schools to increase the number of children and young people attending their EHCP annual review meetings. That you would like to see better support from SENDIAS. Work has begun with SPCV to look at options for improving the support when the service is recommissioned. The commissioning process for SENDIAS is underway and should be completed in early 2026. There are too many mediations and tribunals in relation to the EHCP process. We are carrying out “Way Forward Meetings” – these don’t replace the legal right to appeal but provide a space for parents and schools to discuss what the school can do to support need, facilitated by an LA officer.
We are monitoring and evaluating the success of these meetings using feedback from parents and schools who participate
More social opportunities would be good for children and young people with SEND We have gained understanding of the Solihull Youth Offer as a whole.
We continue to develop the youth offer to provide more opportunities for children and young people with SEND.
There are challenges in accessing community therapies. A link to the Solihull Children's Community Therapies website has been made more visible on the local offer pages. The council and health are reviewing the joint commissioning of these services and their delivery. You want the council to develop holistic, joined up pathways for children and young people with SEND We are reviewing our neurodevelopmental pathway in partnership with SPCV You are not happy with the support offered by social care for children and young people with disabilities
Our new Family Helpline is providing advice and support ensuring that the right assessments are carried out at the right time.
We are increasing communication and publicity around this service so that more families know how to access help when they need it.
It is too hard to get a special school place and that there isn't enough provision in this area. We have been successful in securing agreement from the government to build a new special Free School
